City Explorer-Glasgow

Glasgow is a great City to explore not just the architectural genius of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, but a vast array of world-class attractions, many of them offering free entry. This 2-night, taster itinerary provides accommodation right in the heart of the City, within walking distance of café, bars and restaurants. Queen Street station is minutes from the hotel, for trains to Loch Lomond, Inverness, Aberdeen and beyond. The Mecure Glasgow City Hotel will be your base for this trip with all rooms offering free wifi, double/twin beds, TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee-making facilities and en-suite bathrooms.

Wander across to George Square to pick up a City Sightseeing Bus, which tours the circuit of main attractions. Your two-day pass allows you to hop off and hop on at any point along the route, and an entertaining insight into Glasgow past and present through free headphones available on board. The Riverside Museum has free entry and is a magnificent collection of transport and related memorabilia, suitable for adults and children alike. Climb aboard trains, trams and buses, step back in time and remember your first car or pram-it’s all there! There are over 3,000 objects on display and hundreds of interactive displays, all with a story to tell. Glasgow was one of the most important shipbuilding communities in the world and here you’ll discover the rich heritage and history of the crucial industry.

Leave time for The Kelvingrove Museum; opened in 1901 there are 22 galleries to explore from artefacts to animals, and a gallery of Glasgow’s most famous architect, Mackintosh. This majestic building remains a favourite for visitors to Glasgow.

There will be so much to see and do, that you will welcome the opportunity to sit and enjoy a complimentary afternoon tea at the Willow Tea Rooms, 97 Buchanan Street, included in your itinerary. The tea room was inspired by Rennie Mackintosh and his sharp design is evident. The afternoon teas are unique, and Willow Tea Room is THE place to be seen in Glasgow.

Other places of interest include the Tennants Brewery who offer tours and tasting, Glasgow Cathedral, and Merchant Square for its market scene. You’ll find all the international brands in the main shopping area alongside some traditional boutiques that specialise in Scottish attire. There’s even the Glasgow Distillery for those seeking a wee dram!
